According to the news headquarters of the 34th Tehran International Book Fair, a meaning of cultural diplomacy has been introduced as bargaining to reach goals that unite human societies. Achieving these goals is based on common cultural factors between societies. As a rule, countries with a richer culture will have the ability to absorb more. “Book” is an important factor and medium in the dialogue between cultures, and the publishing industry of any country with a long and rich cultural history is a place for these dialogues.
Tehran International Book Fair, which we are on the verge of its 34th period, can be considered an important factor in cultural diplomacy because it is the result of Iran's rich publishing industry. For this reason, the news staff of this period of the exhibition decided to ask about the Tehran International Book Fair in a conversation with some of the world's great intellectuals and scholars, and it can be said that the goodness of these conversations is the introduction of this fair to these thinkers.
In this respect, Noam Chomsky, a professor of linguistics at the University of Arizona and Professor of Linguistics Emeritus at MIT, in response to the question of whether he is familiar with the Tehran Book Fair and whether he would like to see it, says: “Unfortunately, I don't know about it. And cannot travel now.”
In response to the question of whether he is familiar with Iranian publishers, the Emeritus Professor of MIT also said: “Unfortunately, not. My loss.”
Chomsky also believes that books play an important role in cultural diplomacy. Regarding the role of books in cultural diplomacy, he says: “It should be very important.”
Regarding the importance of culture, a professor of linguistics emeritus at MIT also referred to one of his last interviews in 1984 and said: Human beings or any complex organism has a system of cognitive structures that develop much in the way the physical organs of the body develop. That is, in their fundamental character they are innate; their basic form is determined by the genetic structure of the organism. Of course, they grow under particular environmental conditions, assuming a specific form that admits of some variation. Much of what is distinctive among human beings is a specific manner in which a variety of shared cognitive structures develop.
He adds that Perhaps the most intricate of these structures is language. In studying language, we can discover many basic properties of this cognitive structure, its organization, and also the genetic predispositions that provide the foundation for its development.
Chomsky also argued: There has been a tendency to assume that human nature is limited to the immediately observable physical structure of the organism. And that for other aspects of human nature, specifically for behavior, there are no genetically determined structures of comparable complexity to the directly observable physical organization of the body. So human physical structures and intellectual structures are generally studied in different ways. The assumption is that physical structures are genetically inherited and intellectual structures are learned.
“I think that this assumption is wrong. None of these structures is learned. They all grow; they grow in comparable ways; their ultimate forms are heavily dependent on genetic predispositions. If we understood, as we do not, the physical bases for these structures, I have little doubt that we would find structures in the brain for social interactions, or language, or analysis of personality — a whole variety of systems developed on the basis of a specific biological endowment,” professor of linguistics at the University of Arizona, told.
The 34th Tehran International Book Fair with the slogan “the future is to be read” started on the 10th of May and will continue its work until the 20th of May 2023 in the Mosque of Imam Khomeini and simultaneously on ketab.ir.
