Regarding the role of books in cultural diplomacy, Cruz Vivas, an emeritus professor of literature from Venezuela, told the news headquarters of the 34th Tehran International Book Fair: Books have a very important and fundamental role in cultural diplomacy. In order to have a cultural exchange through books, we can also counter the negative news that is published about independent countries like Venezuela and reflect the realities of these countries.
She added: Since the time of Hugo Chávez, the former president of Venezuela, the culture reading book has expanded. Because he was very interested in reading. He even provided one million books for free. For example, the “Les Miserables” of Victor Hugo, the collection of books of Latin American poems was one of these books.
She said: Since then, Venezuelan people became more interested in reading books. Because reading books was not only for a certain social class. From this period, conditions were prepared so that people from all social classes could read books.
Vivas added: With the sanctions imposed on Venezuela, the people of this country were under pressure, but without a doubt, attending to this exhibition shows our efforts to introduce the authors of this country to the world.
She emphasized: “Monte Avila” publishing house, which is considered the largest publishing house in Venezuela, is present at the 34th Tehran International Book Fair. This exhibition participates in almost all book exhibitions
She added: Some Venezuelan officials are writers and poets. For example, the Speaker of the Parliament is a poet and has a book.
In the end, Vivas said: The fact that Venezuelan officials are writers and poets shows what role the Bolivarian Revolution played in literature and writing and how humanitarian it is.
The 34th Tehran International Book Fair with the slogan “the future is to be read” started on the 10th of May and will continue until the 20th of May 2023 in the Mosque of Imam Khomeini and simultaneously on ketab.ir.
